Welcome to Accomplish English, your home for affordable English language coaching.
What exactly is language coaching?
Simply put, language coaching is the most practical and efficient way for you to accomplish all your English goals. Continue reading to learn how Accomplish English can help you.
Some more basic questions…
So who are you?
Well that’s a pretty good place to start. We are a very small ESL coaching business operating out of the Washington DC area. We were created very recently (August 2020) by an experienced ESL teacher named Jake, but we’ll get back to that later. We are here to offer real, personalized help with English at a reasonable price to whoever needs it.
If I want to improve my English skills, shouldn’t I just take classes?
Maybe, maybe not. Look, there’s nothing wrong with group English classes… if they’re free. Or, if every student in your class happens to be at the exact same level of English. And regular group classes can be a great way to meet people from other backgrounds.
But most group ESL classes are simply not a very efficient way to make the kind of progress you want to make. Consider it- in the typical group class, you are likely spending time reviewing things that you already know, the teacher is repeating the same things again and again for the students who don’t come to class regularly, and you’re not getting the personal time and practice you really need.
Furthermore, most of your money is actually going towards all the other stuff- the building space, the workbooks, the owner’s salary, etc. There’s just no reason to waste hundreds of dollars on group classes.
Here at accomplishenglish, we will take the time to learn about you. Your strengths, weaknesses, and long-term goals. And we guarantee satisfaction, or your money will be refunded.
How Does It Work?
In your free introductory session (15-30 minutes or so), our teacher, Jake, will take the time to get to know you by asking a few basic questions, like:
What are your purposes for learning English?
What are your strengths and weaknesses?
How often would you like to meet?
How much homework are you willing to do?
If grammar & writing are more your focus, you can also provide a writing sample, or take a free diagnostic test and work from there. Then, the teacher will take the time to create a targeted learning plan to get you where you need to be, and you will meet again in a few days and go to work.
Pricing:
Virtual coaching is offered at the rate of $40/hour.* Fees are payable via Venmo or PayPal.
*If you know others who would like to join you in one of your virtual sessions, they may join for $5 per hour for each additional person. The more people in the class, the cheaper it gets!

A little bit ABOUT language learning…
Why is learning a new language as an adult so hard?
This is a question that linguists have been wrestling with for years. Modern research seems to suggest that it has to do with brain lateralization, or the process during which our right brain and left brain develop seperate roles during puberty.
As you probably know, the two halves of your brain have different jobs. The left brain is said to be the “logical” side, and the right brain is the “creative,” or “artistic” side. However, these different roles don’t develop we are teenagers, long after we have already learned our first language.
Learning a new language requires the different parts of the brain- the logical and creative parts- to be able to communicate with each other quickly and without barriers, as they can only do when we are very young and our brains are still soft little balls of mush, not yet two distinct halves. (This is also why children sometimes have the amazing ability to invent new languages too.)
Unfortunately, as we go through puberty, some time during our teenage years, the two halves of our brain take on their permanent roles and we have lost these abilities forever.
Is there anything I can do to learn language like a child again?
Hah! No. I wish. Don’t worry though, it is still possible to learn a new language as an adult. It just takes more time and effort. (Like, a lot more time and effort.)
Is English more difficult to learn than other languages?
No, just the spelling.
The real question isn’t which languages are easier or more difficult to learn- it’s really a matter of how closely related are your first language (L1) and the one you’re trying to learn (L2).
“Never make fun of someone who speaks broken English.
It means they know another language.”
“English spelling can be difficult.
It can be mastered through tough, thorough thought though.”
“I love cooking
my children and my pets.
Don’t be a psycho... use commas!”
